Roses and Music

The Japanese beetles were so hard on my roses this summer and even though the leaves on my rose bush are few, it is blooming again.
My yellow roses are also making a come back. There are more blooms than I could get on this snap.
The Keystone Bluegrass Express sang at the annual Berks Heim celebration. This was in the Alzheimer's Unit. They were so appreciative and clapped. One of them even did the loud whistle at the end of our songs. One of the ladies kept winking at Wendell. They were funny.
At 7 P. M. we were at the Mohrsville Church of the Brethren. They had the start of their Dedication week end for the new Fellowship hall they had built. I gave my camera to Rita to take the pictures. She wasn't able to get us all on one, so you see the right side of us and then the left side.
The other half.

Amy's visit

When Amy, Chase, and Joanna visited, we went to Cracker Barrel to eat and then went to Cabela's. Ricky had something for Amy to return. We did that and then went to see all the animals. With Ricky being a hunter, I think he is training Chase to love hunting, too.
I took this of Joanna when we were at Cracker Barrel. She was so good and allowed us to eat and just looked around.
Here I am holding Janna at my house. She is a real sweetie.
This is Chase playing with the bricks (legos). These have been played with by my grandchildren and now the great grandchildren.
Joanna was so cute. She was sitting in her car seat, looking at her Mommy and cooing and smiling. She has such blue eyes and although her hair was dark when she was born, Amy thinks it is getting lighter. She is ten weeks old here.

Labor Day

How do you celebrate Labor Day? You labor of course. My stove needed a good cleaning after all the jellies and grapes I worked with. So I did it.
I also decided my forsythia bush needed a "hair cut". I had done the other one earlier. So, I put my wheelbarrow beside the bush and "whacked" away.
What did I do with the clippings? I decided it might make a good mulch for some of my iris. So, I wheeled them to the iris and put them among the iris. I hope it works OK. It should be better than letting them dry and then burning them.
I also washed up my grape juice towels and straining cloths and they are fluttering on my wash line. Amy, in case you wonder, the cloths I use are empty feed sacks from many years ago. They used to put chicken feed in patterned bags. I had a lot of dresses as a child that were made out of feed sack. Since your great grandpa worked at the feed mill, if any bag had a hole in it and couldn't be used he brought it home and your great grandma washed it and saved it. They also had a few chickens and she saved those bags. She accumulated a big box of them. When they had their sale I got the box. I used some of the nicer prints and made a quilt called "Trip Around the World" for each of my kids and gave it to them for their 25th wedding anniversary. Not only was the quilt made by me but, the feed sacks were from their grandma. The ones I used for straining juice were some that I thought were not as pretty. Quite a story! I don't know how interesting all this is, but I will be glad to get back to work tomorrow. It is too lonely on a holiday.
